Glass Edge Polishing

At Aquariums4Life, all glass edges, both visible and hidden, are precision polished to enhance safety, reduce the risk of fractures, and improve the overall durability of your aquarium.

Polishing eliminates the sharp, brittle edges commonly found on untreated glass, significantly reducing the chances of breakage and increasing the tank's safety rating. This attention to detail is just one of the reasons our aquariums are built to a higher standard.

We offer a high quality Cerium Polish, renowned for its clarity and smooth finish, on many of our builds as an optional upgrade, and as standard on our Braceless Range (available at the point of order). This premium polish delivers a beautiful, refined edge that enhances both the appearance and longevity of the glass.

  • Glass is manufactured to a ±3mm tolerance

  • Cerium polishing is available for glass thicknesses between 4–12mm

Aquariums4Life Double black glass base

Doing Things Differently — As Standard

Double Glass Base
On tall or the longer aquariums, it’s common practice to increase the thickness of the side base glass for added strength. At Aquariums4Life, we take it a step further. In addition to our already durable floating base design, we include a double glass base as standard on larger builds, offering enhanced safety without compromising on visual appeal.
If you want the Black / White / Grey Base option, Aquariums4Life now offer PinSeal (ABS) bases to the interior of your tank. Pinseal allows rocks to be directly placed on the substrate of your aquarium.

What is a Floating Base?

A floating base means that you will never have glass to glass contact along the joints of your aquarium. Where many aquarium companies will build the tanks with the front and side panes balanced on the base glass, Aquariums4Life have the base glass situated inside of the front and side panes. This means we are ensuring a 1.5-2mm cushion of silicone between your glass. This allows some movement, but more importantly makes your tank safer still.

The following video shows the difference between standard tank assembly and the technique adopted by Aquariums4Life. You can clearly see that the aquarium not assembled by Aquariums4Life has very minimal silicone, in some places next to no silicone is bonding the glass, because the weight of the glass has simply pushed all the silicone out from the joint. Imagine these types of construction with unpolished glass as is the case of some aquarium manufacturers!
